Moving Truck

Product

Overview

A moving truck is a medium-duty box truck built for household and small-business furniture relocation. The vehicle pairs a conventional cab over a ladder frame with a long enclosed cargo box and a built-in loading ramp that pulls out from under the floor. Gross vehicle weight typically falls between 12,000 and 14,500 lb, placing the truck in commercial Class 4, where it can be driven on a standard license in most jurisdictions. The combination of a high roof, a translucent skylight panel, and tie-down tracks along the walls lets a small crew load, secure, and unload bulky items without specialized equipment.

The drivetrain centers on the Powertrain, a 6.7 L turbo-diesel engine matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. Power reaches the rear wheels through the Driveline, which carries torque from the gearbox to a hypoid rear axle. The Cab and Chassis provides the structural backbone, while the Cargo Box Body forms the cargo enclosure. Suspension, braking, steering, and electrical subsystems are sized for repeated heavy loading over short urban routes rather than long-haul highway service.

Cab and chassis

The Ladder Frame consists of two box-section steel rails roughly 6.5 m long joined by bolted cross-members. The frame carries the entire vehicle load and distributes it to the axles. Above the front axle sits the Cab Shell, a stamped and welded steel structure with three crew positions. The cab interior holds bench and bucket Cab Seat units, a molded Dashboard with the instrument cluster, and a center display. Front and rear Bumper bars with crush cans absorb low-speed impacts. The chassis is rated for a 12,000 lb gross weight with margin for the cargo box and a full payload.

Powertrain

The Diesel Engine is a 6.7 L inline-six turbo-diesel producing 300 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque. Its cast iron Cylinder Block carries six bores and the main bearing webs, capped by an aluminum Cylinder Head with dual overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. A forged Crankshaft rides on seven main journals, and each Piston and Rod uses a bowl-in-crown piston for direct injection. A variable-geometry Turbocharger supplies up to 2.4 bar of boost. Fuel arrives through the Fuel System, where an engine-driven pump raises pressure to 1,800 bar for the common-rail injectors. Exhaust passes through the Exhaust System, which cleans soot in a particulate filter and reduces nitrogen oxides in an SCR catalyst.

The Automatic Transmission is a six-speed torque-converter automatic. Its lock-up Torque Converter engages above 1,500 rpm to cut slip losses, and the Valve Body routes line pressure to the planetary clutch packs. The Cooling System system uses an aluminum Radiator, an air-to-air Charge-Air Cooler, a belt-driven Water Pump, and a viscous-clutch Cooling Fan that engages above 95 C coolant temperature.

Cargo box and loading ramp

The Cargo Box Body is a 24 ft enclosure built on a tubular steel Box Subframe bolted to the chassis rails. A marine-grade plywood Box Floor over steel crossmembers carries up to 4,000 lb of distributed payload. The Box Walls and Roof use riveted aluminum skin on extruded posts with a translucent roof panel that admits daylight. A counterbalanced Roll-Up Door seals the rear opening, and recessed Tie-Down Track tracks let movers strap furniture against shifting.

The defining feature is the Loading Ramp, a pull-out aluminum ramp stowed beneath the box floor. Its ribbed Ramp Deck handles a 1,000 lb rolling load, telescoping Slide Rail guides slide it out, and a gas Ramp Assist Spring plus a pair of springs reduce the effort to return it to its slot.

Driveline and suspension

Torque leaves the transmission through a two-piece Driveshaft with a center support bearing, feeds the full-floating Rear Axle, and divides at the Differential, which uses a 4.10:1 hypoid ring and pinion. Ride and load support come from the Suspension, with multi-leaf Front Leaf Spring and progressive-rate Rear Leaf Spring packs, four hydraulic Shock Absorber dampers, and a front Stabilizer Bar bar to limit body lean.

Brakes, steering, and electrical

The Brake System are four-wheel ventilated discs with vacuum boost and ABS. A tandem Master Cylinder splits the front and rear circuits, twin-piston Brake Caliper units clamp 330 mm Brake Rotor discs, and an ABS Modulator pulses pressure to prevent lockup. The Steering System uses a recirculating-ball Steering Gearbox with hydraulic assist from a belt-driven Power Steering Pump. The Electrical System system runs on a 12 V Battery, a 180 A Alternator, and a chassis harness that feeds the Lighting Set set of headlamps, tail lamps, and cargo box dome lights.

Use and variants

Moving trucks are sold to fleets and rented to individuals for one-way and round-trip relocations. Smaller 10 ft versions on a cutaway van chassis serve apartment moves, while 26 ft versions on a heavier chassis carry the contents of a full house. Common options include a translucent roof for daytime visibility, a tuck-away liftgate in place of the ramp, and a mother's-attic extension over the cab for long items. Service intervals follow the diesel engine: oil changes near 15,000 miles, particulate filter regeneration on a duty-cycle basis, and DEF refills for the SCR system.
