Overview

This is a mid-size all-wheel-drive gasoline SUV built on a unibody platform, the body shell and structure are one welded steel monocoque rather than a separate body bolted to a ladder frame. That layout keeps weight down, lowers the floor, and gives the car-like ride that defines a crossover, while still allowing a raised seating position, four-wheel drive, and a 3,500 lb towing rating.

Power comes from a 2.5 L turbocharged inline-4 Gasoline Engine, a compact direct-injection petrol engine that makes 275 hp and a broad torque plateau from low rpm thanks to the turbo. Drive passes through an 8-speed automatic 8-Speed Automatic and into an AWD driveline AWD Driveline that normally drives the front wheels and engages the rear axle on demand through a clutched transfer case.

The vehicle decomposes into sixteen top-level systems: the unibody Unibody, powertrain, all-wheel driveline, front and rear suspension, brakes, steering, cooling, fuel, exhaust, electrical, interior, HVAC, lighting, and four corner wheels. Several of these reuse shared sub-assemblies that appear across many vehicles in this catalogue, wheels, seats, bearings, seals, and electric motors.

How it works

The engine breathes through the turbocharger and burns gasoline injected at high pressure straight into each cylinder; the 8-speed automatic multiplies torque off the line and keeps the engine in its efficient band at cruise. Torque then reaches the road through the AWD driveline: a power-takeoff transfer case feeds a driveshaft back to the rear differential, while CV axles deliver torque to each wheel through joints that flex as the suspension moves.

Ride and handling come from a MacPherson-strut Front Suspension and a multi-link Rear Suspension, both isolating the body from road shock through coil springs and dampers. Stopping is handled by the four-wheel disc brake system Brake System, whose ABS module pulses the calipers to prevent lockup. The driver's inputs are translated by an electrically assisted steering system Steering System, where a brushless motor adds torque to the rack so parking is light but the wheel firms up at speed.

Inside, the interior Interior carries five seats, a dashboard, and a touchscreen infotainment head unit Infotainment Head Unit combining an LCD, a touch digitizer, and a microcontroller. Climate is managed by the HVAC unit HVAC Unit, which blends air over a heater element and an A/C evaporator. The whole vehicle runs on a 12 V electrical system Electrical System fed by an alternator and battery, with a fuse box, relays, and a wiring harness tying every module together.
