Go-Kart

Product

Also known as: go cart, racing kart, karting

Overview

The go-kart is a small, single-seat four-wheeled vehicle for recreational and entry-level motorsport use. It has no suspension and no differential: simplicity is the point. A low center of gravity, light weight, and direct steering give it lively handling at modest speeds, making it a common introduction to vehicle dynamics and racecraft.

How it works

The structure is the Frame, a welded tubular steel chassis that ties together every other component and flexes slightly in corners to substitute for suspension. Power comes from the Engine, a single-cylinder air-cooled four-stroke fed by a carburetor and started by a recoil pull. Drive engages automatically through the Centrifugal Clutch, a centrifugal unit that connects the engine to the drive sprocket once revs rise above idle.

From the clutch, the Final Drive transmits power by chain to a sprocket on the Rear Axle, a single live shaft spinning both rear wheels together on bearings. The driver steers through the Steering assembly, where the wheel turns a column linked by tie rods to the front spindles with no gear reduction. Stopping is handled by the Brakes, a hydraulic rear disc actuated through a master cylinder. The driver is supported by a fixed Seat and operates the Pedals for throttle and braking, with a front Nassau Panel panel completing the kart.
