Armored Cash-In-Transit Truck Product

Overview

An armored cash-in-transit (CIT) truck moves banknotes, coin, and valuables between banks, retailers, ATMs, and central cash facilities. It is built by an armoring specialist on a medium-duty commercial chassis, and its design follows from one operational fact: almost all CIT robberies happen at the curbside transfer, not on the road. The vehicle is therefore organized as a chain of compartments and interlocks that keep money, crew, and the outside world separated at every moment, with the ballistic shell as the backstop rather than the whole defense.

A typical specification is the European B6/VR7 class: body plate and glazing certified against 7.62×51 mm rifle ball under EN 1522/1523 and EN 1063. That costs roughly 3,000 kg, which is why the platform is a 10 to 12 tonne truck rather than a van.

Chassis

The Truck Chassis carries the permanent armor payload on a fishplated Reinforced Frame, heavy Leaf Spring Pack packs, large-bore Heavy-Duty Damper units, and Anti-Roll Bar stabilizers on both axles to manage the raised center of gravity. A 6.7 L Diesel Engine of about 220 kW drives through a heavy-duty Automatic Transmission — automatic, so the driver keeps both hands free in a threat zone. Each Run-Flat Wheel Assembly contains a composite Run-Flat Insert that supports the tire bead after gunfire deflation, good for roughly 50 km of escape driving, with a Pressure Sensor reporting tire state.

Armor and glazing

The Armored Body is welded from 6 to 8 mm high-hardness Ballistic Steel Panel plates at around 500 HB. Protection is omnidirectional: a Roof Armor Panel panel against fire from overpasses, Floor Armor against fragmentation from below, and Firewall Armor closing shot lines through the engine bay. Every joint and door gap is covered by a welded Overlap Strip, because bullet splash through a 3 mm gap defeats any plate thickness, and an aramid Spall Liner catches back-face fragments inside the crew space.

The Ballistic Glazing Set set matches the body rating with 40 to 60 mm glass-clad polycarbonate laminates: a curved Ballistic Windshield weighing around 150 kg, fixed Ballistic Side Window panes, and small Vision Block transparencies giving rear and vault sightlines. Each pane sits in a steel Glazing Frame that prevents the laminate being pushed in whole — the frame matters as much as the glass.

Vault and access discipline

Cargo rides in the Cargo Vault Compartment, sealed from the guards by a full Vault Bulkhead. The Vault Door combines multi-point Deadbolt Set bolts with a Time-Delay Lock enforcing a 5 to 15 minute opening delay, so a crew under coercion physically cannot hand over the load quickly — the delay converts a one-minute robbery into one long enough for response. Currency travels in sealed cassettes on locked Cash Cassette Rack shelving, many fitted with a Note Staining Unit (intelligent banknote neutralization) that floods the notes with indelible dye if the container is forced. Small parcels move through a rotary Rotary Pass-Through drum without any door opening.

The Access Control System system applies airlock discipline to the whole vehicle. Each 200 kg Armored Door has a self-latching Slam Lock and an Electric Door Lock released only from inside or by the depot; the Door Interlock Controller controller refuses to unlock any door unless every other door is shut and the vehicle is stationary. Conical Gun Port apertures allow defensive fire from cover, and anti-pry Armored Door Hinge forgings resist crowbar attack on the hinge line.

Crew, electronics, and climate

The Crew Compartment seats a driver — who never leaves the vehicle at stops — and one or two guards who run the deliveries. A central Crew Console controls locks, cameras, and radio; an external External Intercom permits conversation through closed armor; an Roof Escape Hatch in the roof covers blocked-door scenarios such as rollovers.

The Security Electronics tie the truck to a depot control room: six CCTV Camera units feeding a tamper-protected DVR Recorder, a concealed GPS Tracker raising route-deviation alerts, covert Duress Button switches at each station, a Siren and PA, and a remote Remote Immobilizer that lets the depot kill fuel and ignition in a hijack.

Because the sealed shell has little glazing and no opening windows, the Sealed-Cabin HVAC system is roughly twice stock capacity, with an engine-driven A/C Compressor, separate Evaporator Unit zones for cab and vault, and a protected Filtered Air Intake positioned so the air path cannot be used to introduce gas.

Operations

A CIT truck runs scheduled multi-stop routes, randomized day to day, typically 20 to 60 stops per shift. The crew procedure — driver aboard, one door at a time, cassettes never opened curbside, time delay on the vault — is as much a part of the design as the steel; the vehicle is engineered so that following procedure is the only physically available way to operate it.
