Pickup Truck

Overview

The pickup truck is a body-on-frame light truck combining a passenger crew cab with an open cargo bed. Body-on-frame construction, rather than the unibody used in most cars, gives the durability, payload, and towing capacity expected of a work vehicle. Four-wheel drive and a leaf-sprung rear axle let it operate off pavement and under load.

Construction

The backbone is the Ladder Frame, a boxed steel ladder frame whose rails, crossmembers, and rubber body mounts isolate the cab and bed from road and powertrain loads. A 5.0L V8 Engine drives through a 10-Speed Automatic into the Transfer Case, which splits torque front and rear and offers a low range for off-road and heavy-haul use. Power reaches the wheels through front and rear driveshafts to the Rear Live Axle, a leaf-sprung live axle, with the Front Suspension providing independent location and ride at the front.

The crew cab is the Cab Body, a body shell housing four doors, three rows of seating, dashboard, and airbags. Behind it, the Cargo Bed carries payload, with a drop tailgate and protective liner. Towing is enabled by the Towing Hitch, which adds a receiver, ball, and trailer wiring connector. Supporting systems include the Cooling System circuit, the Fuel System, and the Electrical System system, which networks the truck's control units, lighting, alternator, and starter.
