Rotary Tiller Product
Overview
A rotary tiller is a tractor-mounted implement that breaks, chops, and mixes the top layer of soil into a loose seedbed in a single pass. Instead of dragging passive tines through the ground like a cultivator, it powers a horizontal rotor of curved blades that spins against the direction of travel, cutting the soil and throwing it back under a hood. One pass replaces several rounds of plowing and harrowing, which is why tillers are used for seedbed prep, residue incorporation, and weed control on small and mid-size farms.
This model is a PTO Driveline-powered unit hung on a tractor's Three-Point Hitch. The tractor lifts and lowers it on the three-point linkage and drives it from the rear PTO. A welded Main Frame carries the whole tool: the gearbox sits on top, the side drive hangs off one end, and the rotor spans the working width between the side plates. Cutting depth is set by the Depth Control skids and rear roller, while a hood and flap in the Shielding keep soil and stones contained.
How it works
Power starts at the tractor PTO and runs through the PTO Driveline: a telescoping shaft with a universal joint at each end so the implement can lift and pitch without binding the drive. A slip clutch with a sacrificial shear bolt sits in this path, so when the rotor hits a root or rock the bolt breaks before the gears do.
The shaft feeds the Central Gearbox, where a spiral-bevel Helical Gear Pair turns the drive 90 degrees from the longitudinal PTO line to a cross shaft, all running in an oil bath sealed by Oil Seal elements on Ball Bearing supports. That cross shaft carries torque out to the Side Drive, an enclosed gear train in an oil-tight housing at the end of the frame that steps the speed down to the rotor and brings the drive down to rotor height.
The Rotor Assembly is the working element: a heavy tube fitted with flanges that bolt on left- and right-hand L-blades. As the rotor spins, the blades slice the soil, lift it, and fling it against the hood, where it shatters and falls back as a fine tilth. Spacing the blades around the flanges spreads the cutting load so the rotor takes one bite at a time instead of slamming the whole width at once. The rear leveling flap then drags over the worked ground to smooth it, and the depth skids ride on the uncut soil to hold the cut at the set depth.
