Combine Harvester

Overview

A combine harvester cuts, threshes, separates and cleans grain crops in a single pass, replacing the separate operations of reaping, threshing and winnowing. The name "combine" reflects that combination. A self-propelled machine, it carries a wide front Header Platform that feeds crop rearward into the working systems, stores clean grain on board, and discharges it to a trailer on the move.

The whole machine is driven by a turbocharged Diesel Engine, which also powers every working component through belts, gearboxes and the Hydrostatic Drive that turns the front wheels.

How it works

The header's reel sweeps standing crop onto a reciprocating cutter bar; a cross auger gathers it to the centre, where the Feeder House conveys the mat up into the machine. Inside, the Threshing System rubs the crop between a spinning rasp-bar rotor and a concave grate, knocking grain loose from the heads.

Threshed material passes to the Separation System, where a rotor cage and oscillating grain pan recover grain still trapped in the straw. Everything that falls through drops onto the Cleaning System: a blower lifts light chaff while layered chaffer and sieve screens let heavy clean grain through, shaken on the shoe.

Clean grain is elevated to the on-board tank by the Grain Handling system and emptied through a folding unloading auger. Spent straw exits the rear through the Straw Chopper & Spreader, which cuts it short and broadcasts it for incorporation. The operator works from a climate-controlled Operator Cab, and a Precision Ag Package package logs yield and moisture against GPS position for field mapping.
