Operating Table Product
Overview
An operating table is the powered platform a surgical patient lies on, and almost everything about it serves two goals: putting the patient in the exact position the procedure demands, and getting out of the way of imaging and the surgical team. Its top splits into segments that bend independently, its column raises and tilts the whole patient, and its surface is transparent to X-rays so a C-arm can shoot through it. Everything is driven by power, held without drift under load, and commanded from a sterile control.
The patient rests on the Tabletop Sections, whose head, back, seat and leg segments articulate around the Articulation Joints joints. The Lift Column lifts and tilts the entire top, standing on the Base & Casters whose Floor Lock Mechanism anchors the table during surgery. The surgeon or circulator drives all of this through the Control System, and accessories clamp to the Accessory Side Rails running down each side.
How it works
Every motion is an actuator. Height, lateral tilt and Trendelenburg each have their own Actuator Motor turning a Height Lift Actuator or its siblings, while the back and leg segments move through Section Actuator units geared into the Articulation Joints joints. Ball-screws are chosen deliberately: they hold an angled, loaded section in place without back-driving when power is removed, so a patient in steep Trendelenburg stays put. Hydraulic cylinders in the Lift Column share the lifting load and give the column a smooth, locked feel.
Because the table must run during a sterile case with no cable to trip over, the Control System is battery powered. The sealed Hand Control Pendant selects a motion and a controller board drives the matching actuator through interlocks that prevent the segments from colliding or exceeding safe angles; the Foot Control gives the same commands when the surgeon's hands are occupied. The radiolucent Radiolucent Pad surfaces and carbon-fiber panels let a fluoroscopy arm image through the patient without the steel frame casting shadows, and when positioning is set the Floor Lock Mechanism drops feet to lift the casters and fix the table to the floor.
