Diesel Generator

Overview

A diesel generator converts the chemical energy of diesel fuel into electrical power by coupling a compression-ignition engine to an alternator. This 500 kVA genset serves standby and prime-power duty for buildings, data centres, and industrial sites, supplying 400 V three-phase power at 50 Hz. The complete unit is mounted on a single skid for transport and installation, and packaged inside an acoustic canopy for outdoor use.

Construction

The Diesel Engine is the prime mover: a turbocharged six-cylinder diesel that delivers mechanical torque at a governed 1500 RPM, the speed required to produce 50 Hz from a four-pole alternator. A Flexible Coupling joins the engine flywheel to the Alternator (Generator End), a brushless synchronous machine whose automatic voltage regulator holds output voltage steady under changing load.

Engine support systems surround the prime mover. The Cooling System package carries the radiator, fan, and coolant circuit that reject combustion heat, while the Exhaust System routes flue gas through a silencer to limit noise and back-pressure. The Fuel System draws from the base tank through filters and a lift pump to the injection system, with water separation to protect the engine.

The whole drivetrain bolts to the Base Frame / Skid, a welded steel skid with anti-vibration mounts that isolate the running unit and double as the integral fuel tank. The Control Panel manages starting, speed and voltage regulation, synchronising, and protective shutdowns for low oil pressure, high temperature, and overspeed. Enclosing everything, the Canopy / Enclosure is a weatherproof, sound-attenuating housing with acoustic lining, lockable access doors, and louvres for cooling airflow.
