Asphalt Paver

Product

Overview

An asphalt paver lays a continuous, uniform mat of hot-mix asphalt during road construction and resurfacing. Trucks discharge mix into a receiving hopper at the front; the machine conveys it rearward, spreads it across the lane width, and a heated screed strikes it off to the target thickness and profile while pre-compacting it. The tracked layout gives high traction and a stable floating reference, allowing class-1 surface smoothness at paving speeds up to 25 m/min.

The machine divides into a self-propelled Tractor Unit carrying the engine and drive, a Material Feed System that handles the mix, and a towed Vibrating Screed that forms the mat.

How it works

The Tractor Unit houses a turbocharged diesel engine driving a closed-loop hydrostatic transmission to each crawler track, so paving speed is set independently of engine speed. From the hopper, twin slat conveyors carry mix through the tunnel to a pair of reversible augers in the Material Feed System; conveyor and auger speeds are governed by mat-level sensors to keep a constant head of material in front of the screed, the single biggest factor in mat quality.

The free-floating Vibrating Screed is towed from pivot points on the tractor. Its angle of attack sets mat thickness: changing the tow-point height or the screed's nose-up angle raises or lowers the mat. Electric heating elements bring the screed plate to temperature before paving to prevent the mix tearing, and tamper bars or vibrators pre-compact the mat to roughly 85–92 % density ahead of the rollers.

The Grade & Slope Control system references a stringline, curb, or the existing surface to override screed tow-point height automatically, holding grade and cross-slope to a few millimetres. All lift, extension, and steering functions draw from the Hydraulic System, while the operators work from a Operator Station with sliding seats and dual consoles for clear sightlines to both screed edges.
