Concrete Pump Truck

Overview

A concrete pump truck delivers ready-mix concrete from a ground-level hopper to the point of placement through a pipeline carried on a folding boom. It lets crews place concrete accurately at height or distance, into formwork, slabs, columns, and foundations, far faster and with less labour than crane-and-bucket methods. The truck is set up on outriggers, the boom is unfolded over the pour, and concrete is pumped continuously while an operator steers the end hose by radio remote.

The vehicle combines a road Truck Chassis, a Concrete Pump Unit, and a Placing Boom supported on Outrigger legs.

How it works

The Concrete Pump Unit is a twin-cylinder piston pump. Two large hydraulic cylinders drive two concrete delivery cylinders in opposition: as one draws concrete from the hopper, the other discharges into the delivery line. An S-shaped transfer tube (the swing tube) swivels between the two cylinders so that the discharging cylinder is always connected to the pipeline, producing near-continuous flow. The truck's power take-off drives the hydraulic pumps that power both the concrete pistons and the swing tube.

Concrete travels up the Placing Boom, a multi-section articulated arm whose delivery pipe is clamped along its length and joined by flexible couplings at each knuckle. Hydraulic cylinders fold and unfold each section, letting the operator reach over obstacles and place concrete precisely. Before pumping, four Outrigger legs extend and level the truck so the boom's overturning moment is safely supported.

The whole machine is driven through a Radio Remote Control radio handset feeding the Control System, which coordinates pump stroke rate, boom movements, and outrigger interlocks, and shuts down if stability or pressure limits are exceeded.
