High-Reach Demolition Excavator Product

Overview

A high-reach demolition excavator is a stripped-down, ultra-extended versions of the standard tracked excavator, built specifically for dismantling buildings taller than one or two storeys without mobilizing a crane. The machine scales to 90–130 tonnes and extends to 30–40 metres of height through a multi-section boom and stick, allowing a single operator to reach rooflines and upper-floor structural members from a safe distance. The counterweight grows with reach to keep the machine stable under load. Drive and swing are hydraulic to preserve fuel efficiency during the slow, controlled movements demanded by precision demolition.

How it works

The machine's front-end geometry follows this logic. A Diesel Engine through a Transmission spins a Main Pump, which loads a Main Valve Block (proportional directional control, load-sensing). The pump's variable displacement allows the operator joystick to command any flow rate and direction — boom up, stick curl, swing right, or track forward — and pressure builds only under load.

The Multi-Section Boom is the reach engine. Depending on design, it may telescope (sections slide inside one another) or articulate (sections pin and rotate). A Boom Lift Cylinder with duplex rod or two cylinders working in tandem raises the boom. To achieve 30+ metres, fabricators combine 3–4 boom sections: Boom Base, Primary Boom Section, Secondary Boom Section, and Tertiary Boom Section. Each section pins with Boom Pin and Boom Joint Seal to prevent oil weeping. At the boom tip is the Stick & Quick-Change Bracket, a shorter secondary arm (2–3 m) with its own Stick Cylinder for curl and pitch.

The Tool Quick-Change Coupler at the stick end is pilot-operated, so tools can be changed in the air without stopping hydraulic flow. Load is applied through a Coupler Socket and Hydraulic Coupling pair. The Pilot Control Spool opens check valves to release tool pressure before disconnect, minimizing spillage.

The Track Base & Drive is engineered for stability. A rigid Track Frame houses the Swing Bearing Ring ball-bearing, onto which the turret frame bolts. The Track Shoe, Idler Roller, and Track Roller spread the 100+ tonne machine across the ground. Two Final Drive Motor motors, powered by the pump through Transmission, rotate the tracks. A Swing Drive Motor rotates the entire turret, allowing the boom to sweep across a building face without repositioning.

Stability balances reach and weight. As the boom extends, the center of mass moves forward. The Counterweight Block, 30–40 tonnes, is clamped to the rear of the turret. An operator extending the boom would tip the machine if the counterweight is too light, so high-reach models run asymmetrically heavy at the back — it looks odd but is the engineering price of tall demolition.

Thermal management is critical under sustained load. The Return Cooler circulates oil rejected from the Main Pump through a large plate-frame cooler, cooling flow before return to the Hydraulic Tank. During high ambient temperatures or extended demolition, the cooler prevents the Hydraulic System from overheating.

The Cab Protective Guard is a welded framework with polycarbonate or mesh panels forming a transparent protective cage around the operator cabin. During high-reach work, pieces of broken concrete, reinforcing steel, and structural debris rain down, and the guard is designed to catch or deflect them, preventing serious injury.

The Cable & Hose Management system of Cable Clip, Protective Sleeve, and Spiral Wrap routes all hydraulic hoses and electrical cables along the boom sections, securing them against abrasion at joints and sharp edges. This preventive layout avoids leaks and electrical faults during repetitive boom cycling.
