Vibratory Soil Roller

Product

Overview

A vibratory soil roller compacts the layers of earth, gravel, and sub-base that sit under roads, embankments, and building pads. Static weight alone only densifies the surface; adding vibration sends pressure waves deep into the lift, rearranging soil particles into a tighter packing far below the drum. A single steel drum at the front does the compacting, while rubber tires at the rear provide traction and carry the engine end of the machine.

The roller is built on an Articulated Frame that articulates in the middle for steering. It carries the Diesel Engine, the Compaction Drum, a Rear Drive Axle to the rear tires, and a Water Spray System for dust and material control.

How it works

The Diesel Engine drives hydraulic pumps rather than a mechanical driveline. Inside the Compaction Drum, a Eccentric Vibration Shaft carries offset weights; a vibration motor spins it at 30–35 Hz, and the rotating imbalance throws the drum up and down hundreds of times a second. Switching the weights between two angular positions changes the amplitude, so the operator can use a high setting for thick lifts and a low setting for finishing or for thin layers over pipes. The drum shell is carried on rubber Isolation Mount isolators so the violent vibration stays in the drum and does not shake the frame or operator apart.

Propulsion comes from a Drum Drive Motor geared into the drum and the Rear Drive Axle at the rear, both fed by the Hydraulic System. Turning the steering wheel sends oil to the Steering Cylinder pair, which bend the Articulation Joint so the drum tracks exactly behind the rear wheels with no offset.

The Water Spray System drips water from a tank through nozzles onto the drum to stop asphalt or clay sticking and to suppress dust. The operator sits in a Cab / ROPS with a roll-over protective structure and a display showing frequency, amplitude, and on advanced machines a compaction meter reading drum response to estimate stiffness in real time. A low-voltage Electrical System system supplies the controls and lights.
