Push-Around Vertical Lift Product
Overview
A push-around vertical lift is a compact, self-propelled aerial work platform ideal for indoor retail, warehouse, and light commercial maintenance. Unlike boom lifts or scissor lifts requiring significant floor space or ground support, push-around lifts have a small footprint and simple vertical Mast Assembly that nests for transport through doorways.
The system comprises a welded-steel Base Frame with locking casters for mobility, a nested rectangular-tube Mast Assembly (typically 3–4 sections) extending 6–10 m, a Work Platform standing deck, and a battery-powered Electric Hydraulic Pump driving a single Lifting Cylinder that raises the mast sections.
Base and casters
The Base Frame is a welded structural-steel Base Plate (1.5–2.5 m × 1.0–1.5 m) providing a stable footprint. Four Caster Wheel (5–8" diameter, swivel and rigid pairs for steering) allow one person to push the lift around the worksite. Each caster has a foot lock, preventing unwanted motion once parked. Frame Rail perimeter safety rails at platform height protect operators. A low Footrest allows the operator to climb into the platform without external equipment.
The unladen weight is typically 300–500 kg, light enough for indoor utility floor loading and moveable by hand with modest effort on level ground.
Mast system and reach
The Mast Assembly comprises 3–4 Outer Tube and Inner Tube nested rectangular sections (50–75 mm × 50–75 mm cross-section). The outer tube is welded to the base frame; inner sections slide inside with Guide Roller wheels maintaining vertical alignment. Mast Stopper mechanical limit stops at the top and bottom prevent over-extension or inadvertent collapse.
Collapsed, the mast is only 1.5–2.0 m tall, allowing the lift to pass through standard doorways (2.1 m ceiling clearance) and fit on freight elevators. Extended, it reaches 6–10 m working height — sufficient for ceiling work, high shelving, overhead signage, or light fixture maintenance indoors.
Platform and guardrails
The Work Platform is a compact deck (0.5–0.8 m²) attached to the mast top via Platform Attachment bolts. A Platform Deck perforated-steel or grating standing surface provides traction. Platform Rail tubular guardrails (1.0+ m high per ANSI A92.1) surround three sides. A Platform Gate hinged safety gate provides entry/exit and interlocks with controls — the lift cannot raise if the gate is open.
The platform supports a single operator (typically 80–150 kg) plus light tools; total payload capacity is 300–500 kg.
Battery and electric power
The Power Battery is an onboard rechargeable pack: either a 24–48 V Battery Cell lithium-ion (modern, lightweight, 50–150 Ah) or traditional lead-acid (heavier, lower cost, ~40–80 Ah). A Battery Management System (battery management system) monitors cell voltage, temperature, and charge state, preventing over-charge/discharge. An onboard or wall-mounted Battery Charger restores full capacity in 4–8 hours.
Battery runtime is 4–8 hours of continuous lift operation per full charge, depending on cell capacity and duty cycle (lifting, lowering, travel).
Hydraulic actuation
The Electric Hydraulic Pump is powered by a 1–3 kW Electric Motor (AC induction or DC brushless). The motor drives a positive-displacement Hydraulic Pump (gear or vane pump, 2–5 cc/rev) delivering 20–50 L/min at 210 bar. A Motor Coupling elastomer coupling isolates vibration. The pump assembly is Pump Mount elastomer-damped to reduce noise and vibration.
The pump pressurizes a single Lifting Cylinder (double-acting rod cylinder, 50–80 mm bore, 2–3 m stroke) that pivots from the base frame at one end and connects to the mast at the other. As the cylinder extends, it straightens, lifting the mast at ~0.3–0.5 m/s. A Pressure Relief pilot-operated relief valve at ~210 bar prevents overpressure damage to the cylinder and hoses.
Operator controls
A coiled Control Pendant push-button control cord hangs from the platform, giving the operator:
- Raise: Energizes the motor/pump; hydraulic flow extends the cylinder, lifting the mast.
- Lower: Stops the motor; gravity and controlled descent via Descent Valve manual needle valve lowers the mast at operator-controlled speed.
- Stop: De-energizes motor immediately.
A Pressure Gauge analog or digital hydraulic pressure display on the frame indicates system health. An Emergency Beacon flashing beacon and audible alarm activate on overload or system fault.
Safety features
The Safety and Load Monitoring include:
- Load pins: Load Pin load cells on the mast preventing operation above 300–500 kg capacity.
- Tilt detection: Tilt Switch inclinometer preventing raise if the lift is tilted >5° from level (slope or uneven floor).
- Pressure relief: Pressure Relief 210 bar relief protects the hydraulic circuit.
- Manual descent: Descent Valve allows controlled lowering if the motor fails or batteries are depleted.
Operational characteristics
Push-around lifts are ideal for:
- Retail stockrooms: Stocking high shelves, warehouse inventory access.
- Indoor maintenance: Ceiling repairs, HVAC ductwork, lighting fixtures, sprinkler systems.
- Retail displays: Signage installation, seasonal decorations.
- Narrow aisles: Fits through standard doorways and aisle widths.
- Quiet, clean operation: Battery-electric with no combustion emissions.
Typical duty is 4–8 hours daily in warehouses, retail backrooms, or commercial buildings. Annual maintenance includes hydraulic fluid top-up, hose inspection, load-pin and relief-valve testing, and battery cell-voltage balancing. Batteries are replaced every 3–5 years depending on chemistry and use intensity.
