CNC Lathe

Product

Overview

A CNC lathe is a turning center that rotates a workpiece against fixed cutting tools under computer control, producing rotationally symmetric parts: shafts, bushings, fittings and threaded components. This machine is a 2-axis slant-bed design, the most common configuration in production machining. The slanted bed lets chips fall clear of the slideways and gives the operator a clear line of sight to the cutting zone, while a heavy cast-iron structure damps vibration to protect surface finish and tool life.

Construction

The machine is built on the Bed & Slant Base, a ribbed cast-iron bed that carries the linear guideways and anchors every other assembly. At the spindle end sits the Headstock, housing the main spindle, its bearings and drive; the spindle grips the workpiece in a hydraulic chuck and spins it at the programmed surface speed.

Cutting motion comes from two linear axes. The X-Axis Slide moves the turret toward and away from the part centerline to set diameter, while the Z-Axis Slide travels along the bed to control length and feed. Each axis is driven by a ballscrew and a Servo Drive, with a third servo regulating spindle speed and orientation. Tooling is held in the Tool Turret, a servo-indexed station carrier that swaps tools in under a second so a single program can rough, finish, groove and thread without operator intervention.

Long or slender parts are supported at the free end by the Tailstock, whose hydraulic quill applies a live center. The Hydraulic Power Unit supplies pressure to the chuck, tailstock and turret clamp, and the Coolant System system floods the cut to clear chips and manage heat. Spent chips are carried out by the Chip Conveyor. The whole work zone is sealed inside the Sheet Metal Enclosure, and the CNC Controller executes the part program, coordinating all axes in real time.
