Industrial Band Saw

Product

Overview

An industrial band saw cuts bar, tube, and structural stock to length by running a continuous welded blade around two wheels and feeding it through clamped material. Unlike an abrasive cut-off saw it removes a narrow kerf with real teeth, so it wastes little stock, runs cool, and leaves a square face ready for the next operation. This machine is the horizontal pivoting-bow type used across fabrication and machine shops: the work sits still in a vise while the Saw Bow swings down through it.

The whole saw is built on a Base Cabinet & Reservoir, a welded steel cabinet that carries the bow pivot and tanks the cutting fluid. The bow is a C-frame that mounts the two band wheels and the blade between them. One wheel is the Drive Band Wheel, turned by the geared motor; the other is the Idler Band Wheel, which can slide outward to tension the band. Both wheels are crowned and faced with a polyurethane tire so the blade tracks straight and rides without chatter.

How it works

Power comes from the Motor & Worm Reduction: an induction motor turns a worm reduction box that steps its speed down to the chosen band speed, slow for tough alloys and faster for free-cutting steel and aluminum. That drive turns the drive wheel, which pulls the Band Blade & Tension around the loop. The blade is a bimetal band with hardened tooth tips welded to a flexible spring-steel back, strained to a measured tension by the screw mechanism so it stays straight under load and does not wander in the cut.

The operator clamps the stock in the Material Vise, which sets the jaws against the work and then locks them with a hydraulic ram, and sets the cut length on the Work Stop & Length Gauge. As the saw runs, the Hydraulic Down-Feed meters oil out of a cylinder so the bow descends at a controlled rate, fed too fast the teeth strip, fed too slow they rub and dull. On the way into the cut the blade passes through the Blade Guide Assembly, whose carbide jaws twist the band square to the work and back it against the cutting force, while a brush clears chips from the gullets. The Flood Coolant System system floods the kerf to wash chips away and cool the teeth. The Control & Panel sequences the cycle, runs the coolant with the blade, and trips the drive on a blade break or end of cut.
