Perfume Filling Machine Product

Overview

A perfume filling machine is a specialized production system for bottling fragrance (eau de parfum, eau de toilette, eau de cologne) with precision volume control and secure cap sealing. The machine is critical for fragrance brands producing 10,000–500,000+ units annually, ensuring product integrity, minimal spillage, and consistent presentation.

The system combines vacuum-based volumetric metering (preserving fragrance volatility), nitrogen-inert storage (preventing oxidation), and servo-driven crimping (creating hermetic seals) to protect the formulation from degradation during filling and long shelf-life.

How It Works

Fragrance base is stored in the Fragrance Tank, a 100-liter seamless stainless steel vessel. To prevent oxidation and evaporation, the tank is maintained under a light nitrogen blanket (0.1 bar positive pressure) via the Nitrogen Blanket regulator. This inert atmosphere displaces oxygen without pressurizing the bottle downstream. A recirculation pump (Recirculation Pump, 0.5 L/min) continuously circulates fragrance back to the tank through a 10 µm Inlet Filter, removing any particulates from previous batches.

Empty fragrance bottles arrive on the Bottle Conveyor, an 8-position stepper-driven carousel. Spring-loaded V-block holders (Bottle Holder) secure each bottle; an Position Encoder provides absolute position feedback to the PLC.

At the fill station, the Filling Head houses 4–8 precision fill nozzles (stainless steel, 0.8 mm orifice) connected to a vacuum source. Fragrance flows from the tank through a check valve and into a metering chamber. The PLC energizes the Vacuum Regulator (a proportional valve controlling 0–0.5 bar vacuum), which draws a precise volume of fragrance into the nozzle cavity. A mechanical Metering Cam adjustable on the fly controls pulse duration; as the nozzle enters the bottle, the vacuum breaks, and the metered fragrance drops into the bottle in a single smooth stream, minimizing air entrainment and splashing.

Fill volume is adjusted by modifying either vacuum strength or pulse duration; recipes stored in the HMI allow rapid switchover between 10 ml, 30 ml, and 50 ml bottle sizes without hardware changes. Fill accuracy is ±0.5 ml (±2%), critical for regulatory compliance in fragrance category labeling.

As the carousel indexes, the filled bottle rotates to the capping station. Pre-assembled aluminum overcaps are fed by a vibratory bowl (Cap Bowl, 15 L capacity) and oriented by a guide chute (Orientation Chute) to ensure upright alignment. A pneumatic Cap Placement Arm (150 mm range) grasps the cap with soft vacuum fingers (Cap Gripper) and places it loosely on the filled bottle. A Cap Presence Sensor confirms the cap is present before proceeding.

The Crimping Head then engages. Hardened steel rollers—a Lower Crimp Roll (stationary) and Upper Crimp Roll (servo-driven at 3000 rpm)—roll around the bottle neck, deforming the aluminum cap wings downward to create a hermetic seal. The Roller Pressure Cylinder (pneumatic, 40 mm bore) maintains 80–120 N of crimp pressure as the bottle rotates 360° beneath the rollers. An inline Torque Transducer monitors motor torque; when torque reaches setpoint (indicating full crimp completion), the servo stops, retracts the lower roller, and the capped bottle is released to the exit conveyor.

The entire cycle—fill, cap placement, crimp, eject—takes 0.4–0.75 seconds per bottle, sustaining 80–150 bottles per minute at full speed.

Fragrance Protection Strategy

Fragrance is volatile and oxidizes in air. This machine minimizes exposure through:

  1. Nitrogen blanket: Displaces oxygen in the tank headspace, slowing oxidation.
  2. Inert components: All wetted surfaces (tank, tubing, fittings) are stainless steel 304 or glass/PTFE-lined to prevent metal-catalyzed degradation.
  3. Fast fill: Vacuum metering fills in <1 second, minimizing bottle headspace air.
  4. Crimp sealing: Aluminum overcap is deformed plastically, creating a gas-tight seal rated to prevent >1% loss over 2 years.

Grounding and Static Dissipation

Fragrance is flammable. A copper grounding braid (Grounding Strap, 10 mm wide) connects the frame to a facility ground, dissipating static charge. All electrical components are sealed against ignition risk; the compressed air system uses non-sparking fittings and a 5 µm filter to ensure no friction sparks.

Servo Crimping and Torque Control

The AC servo motor (Crimping Motor, 0.75 kW) provides repeatable crimp pressure and torque monitoring via the Servo Amplifier. Crimp torque setpoint (typically 0.8–1.5 N·m depending on cap material and bottle neck diameter) is stored as a recipe parameter. If a cap is missing or oversized, torque feedback alerts the PLC, which skips that position or triggers a reject signal.

Capacity and Flexibility

At full speed (8 positions × 10 cycles/min = 80 cycles/min), the machine produces 80–150 bottles/minute depending on cap type and crimp depth. The 100-liter tank supports 8–10 hours of continuous production before refilling (depending on bottle size and fill volume).

Multiple fragrance formulations (different concentration = different viscosity) can be processed by simply changing the nitrogen blanket pressure or vacuum metering duration; recipes encapsulate these changes. Bottle size changeover (10 ml to 30 ml to 50 ml) takes 5–10 minutes without hardware modifications.

Maintenance and Consumables

The vacuum pump (rotary vane type) should be oil-serviced every 500 hours. Vacuum hoses are UV-sensitive and replaced annually. Cap feeding bowl surfaces scratch gradually; bowl is resurfaced or replaced every 6–12 months. Crimp rolls wear slowly (hardened steel, but soft aluminum caps do leave micro-scoring); rolls are re-hardened or replaced after 1–2 million cycles.
