Hammer Mill Product
Overview
A hammer mill reduces particle size by brute impact. A rotor spinning thousands of times a minute flings free-swinging hammers at the incoming feed; material shatters on contact and against a breaker plate, then keeps circulating until the fragments are small enough to fall through a screen. It is the go-to mill for grain and animal feed, wood and biomass, and many friable minerals, valued because one machine handles a wide range of feedstock by simply changing the screen.
Size reduction happens in the Grinding Chamber, around the Hammer Rotor. Feed arrives metered through the Feed System system, the rotor is spun by the Drive, and ground product leaves via the Discharge & Air Assist with air assist. An MCU Control Panel supervises the mill, and everything sits on an isolated Frame & Isolation.
How it works
The Hammer Rotor is the working part: a hardened Rotor Shaft carries stacked discs, and rows of Swinging Hammer beaters hang on Hammer Pin rods so they swing freely. At full speed centrifugal force holds the hammers radial, but a tramp object lets them fold back instead of breaking the mill. Material enters the Grinding Chamber, is struck against the Breaker Plate, and recirculates until it passes the curved Grinding Screen — whose hole size sets the maximum particle that can escape.
Feed rate is everything in a hammer mill, so the Feed System system meters material with a speed-controlled Metering Feeder, and a Tramp Magnet pulls ferrous tramp out before it reaches the hammers. The Drive spins the rotor through matched sheaves and a V-belt set from a large Drive Motor.
Ground product is pulled out by the Discharge & Air Assist: an aspiration Blower Motor draws air through the chamber, carrying fines down the discharge hopper and cooling the mill at the same time. The Control Panel panel runs interlocks and watches motor load through relays, throttling the feeder so the mill stays loaded without choking. The complete machine rides on the Frame & Isolation, whose vibration isolators keep the impact loads out of the building structure.
